Process of Developing Characters in an Eastern Story

The Chinese classic novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms has been reinterpreted by various authors and adapted into different media. In novel, character images were shaped peculiarity characters’ characteristics was depicted describing their behavior. This study uses Eastern Western narrative theories to classify development (characterization) methods that creators employed on this story in three distinct media (i.e., antique book with illustrations, temple painting). Thus, aims identify creation processes involved characterization when adapting a literary work substantial textual content. By integrating results narratology approaches, method for preproduction stage animation proposed. explanation may serve as reference education creativity practices.
